75170 The Phantom II Review!

75170 The Phantom II

The Phantom II is a 2017 LEGO Star Wars set. It is $29.99 in US, £39.99 in UK, and $69.99 in New Zealand. It comes with three minifigures: Chopper, Admiral Thrawn, and Kanan Jarrus.

The three minifigures included, Thrawn, Chopper, and Kanan, are good minifigures. Chopper is an old minifigure but is relevant to the set, Blind Kanan Jarrus is a great new figure to get in LEGO form, while Thrawn is a long-awaited LEGO minifigure. It is worth noting, however, that Thrawn’s rank pips are incorrect, as it is based off concept art. Disappointing, but the designer cannot be blamed.

The Phantom II has a cockpit with removable cockpit glass. One minifigure can be seated inside. Behind the cockpit is an astromech socket, where Chopper can slot in. On the side is landing gear, which can be folded out.

When the landing gear is folded out, the ship is in “landing mode”. A ramp on the back can be folded out and a crate containing a thermal detonator can be inserted into the ship.

There are also spring-loaded shooters on the ship, and those can be fired off by moving the yellow Technic piece left and right.

All in all, this set is great, with a fantastic build and fun play features.

But there is one fatal flaw.

The price! $29.99 in the U.S. is reasonable to me, but £39.99 and $69.99 NZD is unacceptable. The size of the final build is way too small.

A good price would’ve been £29.99 and $59.99 NZD at most.
