75183 Darth Vader Transformation Pre-Review!

So today we’re going to take a look at 75183 Darth Vader Transformation. Bear in mind that this set has not been released yet, but the prices are $24.99 USD and I believe it will be Β£19.99 and $49.99 NZD.

I will be taking a look at the currently available images of the set and sharing my thoughts! This set is obviously based on the scene in Revenge of the Sith when Anakin Skywalker has been badly burnt following a duel with Obi-Wan, and he is being operated on (to transform into Darth Vader).

One of the darker scenes in Star Wars…
Lord Vader, rise…
NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (many people hate this part but I actually like it)

So yep, that’s the source material. What about what you get in the set?

You have Roasted Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader, Palpatine, an FX-9 Medical Droid, a droid which I think is 2-1B, and a probe droid on a clear stand. Oh, and did I mention the build?

I believe the Palpatine is the same as the one from 75159. If so, here’s a closer look at him:

Heh heh heh

And a closer look at Darth Vader:

This figure is most impressive.

I think Darth Vader uses Burnt Anakin’s head underneath in this set.

The play features include a rotating operating table (with Anakin on one side and Vader on the other, activated by rotating the black gear in front), a helmet attaching function (places Vader’s helmet onto the Vader body, uses the Technic pieces at the back), a function to raise Darth Vader up (by pulling out the front axle with gear), and a “NNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!” play feature (which sends the lightsaber stand and medical droid flying)! πŸ˜€

I like how LEGO tried to make the floor of the operating room the shape of the Imperial logo, but I think it looks rather messy.

You can see some of the functions in action here (but bear in mind that the person did not mount Vader’s helmet correctly and thus the helmet feature didn’t work):

I think that many, many people will buy this set because it’s the first set in a long time to have Darth Vader available in a cheap set. Palpatine is a nice addition, and if you count brick-built droids as figures, you get 5 in this set!!

I personally find the build itself rather poor, but will probably pick this up nonetheless to get Darth Vader & Palpatine (even though I do plan on picking up 75159).

But what about you? Let me know in a comment below! πŸ™‚

  1. Neat pre-review! Although I probably won’t get the set myself, it’s nice to see that they are having a fresh take at it. It looks somewhat accurate, but convoluted at the same time.

  2. I really like this set and the play features look pretty good. Not to mention the minifigures – love how affordable it is to get a good looking Darth and Emperor! That makes this set a must buy!!!!
    Keep up the good work!
