Ahh, the recently revealed McLaren 720S Speed Champions set! It is based on the recently revealed McLaren 720S (duh), so let’s get on with the Pre-Review!
I will be sharing my thoughts based on the revealed images of the set. Bear in mind I do not (no one does, I think) have this set. As always, here’s an image of the actual car for comparison:
And here’s the LEGO car for comparison:
I always think LEGO sets based on real cars are at a disadvantage, due to the fact that real cars are sleek and angular, making the LEGO versions blocky in comparison. This set uses the new Speed Champions mudguard piece, as well as a 1×2 angular piece (right above the headlight).
I can count around 13 stickers, though Brickset thinks there are under 10. Well, at least it’s not the 30+ stickers that usually come with Speed Champions sets. There is no driver included, but instead a minifigure which appears to be its driver. Still, you can put the helmet onto him and pretend he is the driver of the car.
The “side build” included in most Speed Champions sets of this size is, in this case, a very nice-looking desk. The 4×4 tile with 4 studs seems to use a sticker, but I will be pleasantly surprised if it is printed.
It will likely be £13 in the UK, $15 in the US, and $25 in New Zealand, which makes this set great! It may very well be my first LEGO Speed Champions purchase 🙂
But what do you think? Let me know in a comment below!
