Hi everyone! Today I have a review of a set that a friend very kindly bought for me: 76086 Knightcrawler Tunnel Attack!
This is a 2017 LEGO DC Superheroes Justice League set that contains 622 pieces and retails for $49.99 USD, £54.99 GBP, $79.99 AUD, and $99.99 NZD.
Let’s check out the minifigures, of which there are 4.
Batman is the first minifigure included in the set. He has updated face prints, which is awesome as it has stubble to reflect Batfleck. What I don’t like is the fact that they took away his dual-molded legs, which makes his grey legs look like robes instead LEGO has demonstrated that they can print on dual-molded legs, and they definitely should have done that here. It sucks because it pretty much completely ruins what would otherwise have been a great minifigure. C’mon LEGO! Let’s Make Dual-Molding Great Again! (sorry) Batman is armed with a grappling gun and a black batarang. I thought the Batarangs in the DCEU were silver?!
The second minifigure is the highly-anticipated Flash. He’s quite a detailed figure, ranking #3 on my “Rank the Justice League” post, and has lines criss-crossing all over his body. His torso and head are dark red, while the rest of the body is regular bright red. I’m not a huge fan of the mix of colors, but it’s not a bad figure and will likely motivate many to purchase this set. Note that the stud shooter he’s shown holding is not his, it’s stolen from the Parademon. There are also two Parademons included in the set. They are the green ones, which I prefer as compared to the yellow/blue ones. They’re quite detailed minifigures, but I think they are rather inaccurate to the movie ones, which have a much darker tone. Both are, tragically, armed with stud shooters.
There are a few play features in the set. The first is the Power Blast! piece that the Flash is armed with. This is a reasonably fun feature but I am worried it may damage the minifigure hands due to the increased pressure on the hands. Time will tell. This is the only accessory included for Flash. There is just one build in the set, the Knightcrawler, which has a few play features.
The legs are on ratcheted joints. In their regular mode, all 8 wheels touch the ground and the vehicle can be rolled around. However, by rotating the legs, the wheels get lifted off the ground, and this becomes crawling mode. It is quite unfortunate that you can’t roll the set around in this form. You can also just raise one leg to pretend the vehicle is slowing down, kind of like a rollerblade’s heel brake. There’s also an opening cockpit which seats Batman inside. I like the translucent red canopy, but I believe this is inaccurate as I do not remember seeing a red canopy on the vehicle in the trailer. There are also two rapid stud shooters behind the cockpit. These are not quality play features in my opinion and I do not like them. When fired, the studs fly everywhere. Good luck cleaning up.
There’s also a place at the back to store the Batarang and the grappling gun. However, I feel the back view is very, very ugly and the Technic L beams used to hold the rapid stud shooters are particularly obtrusive. There’s also a grey Mother Box included in the set. This one is light grey and uses two masonry bricks turned inside out to achieve the external effect. I do like the printed 2×2 tile on top.
No offence to my friend, but this isn’t a very good set honestly. The play features aren’t that great, the vehicle is quite small for the price despite the high piece count, the build for the four legs was incredibly repetitive and tedious, and the entire vehicle honestly looks like a big gray/black mess. Flash is a good minifigure but Batman is not done very well and the Parademons aren’t super special. The only reason I can see someone getting this is for the Flash and maybeeee the Motherbox. Otherwise, there are far better sets out there for this price.
Personal Rating: 2.5/5
