G’day everyone! Today I have a review of a LEGO Movie set: 70801 Melting Room! This is a 2014 set that retailed for £11.99 GBP, $12.99 USD, $19.99 AUD, and $24.99 NZD. Let’s see how good of a set it is!
There are three minifigures in the set: Emmet, Wyldstyle, and a Lord Business Robo-SWAT. Our hero Emmet Brickowski is on the left. He is dressed in a simple construction worker outfit and has the piece of resistance on his back. His head is double-sided, happy and scared.
Wyldstyle is a cool figure. I like how one side is quite plain and the other is more colorful. Her hoodpiece is great as well.
The Robo-SWAT is not a bad minifigure. They’re like nameless drones so getting another of these is like getting another stormtrooper. I do like his grey gun and cool uniform, but it would’ve been nice to get a bulletproof vest or something.
All in all, quite cool minifigures, especially for the price.
The main build is the actual Melting Room. It has a few nice parts to it. There’s this detachable section which Emmet is chained to. It is on a turntable so it rotates, and you can use the gear on the side to elevate it. It’s simple but works and looks good. Here’s a look at that section attached to the main build. On the other side of the room (if it can even be called a room) is the laser. This will help to melt the Piece of Resistance off Emmet. I like the way the laser is built, though the bright red parts (the Technic beam and the joystick) look a bit odd. The base of the laser is on a hinged section so can be angled inwards. In addition, you can angle the part which holds the laser up and down, and the main laser can swivel side-to-side. There’s also this small detachable section on the left which has a weapons rack. Perfect for intruders.
Overall, this is a pretty cool set. I can’t really fault it at its price point, as the minifigures are good and build works. Definitely a good cheap LEGO Movie set.
Personal Rating: 4/5
