70818 Double-Decker Couch Review!

Hey everyone of the future! I know some of the 2018 sets have probably come out by now, but at the time of writing I don’t have pictures of them to make reviews. Actually, as I write this now, I have 0 of the 2018 sets. I’ll try to get them and make reviews ASAP, but today I’m focusing on a 2014 set review 🙂 This is 70818 Double-Decker Couch, a LEGO Movie set that has 197 pieces and an affordable retail price of £14.99 (UK), $14.99 (U.S.), $24.99 (Aus), and $29.99 (NZ). Let’s see how good of a set it is!

First things first, the minifigures. This is gonna be a huge draw for many. There are actually five minifigures in the set, and they are all very good!

The first one on the left is Benny. He’s basically your regular Benny but has new head printing. His head is double-sided. I like the “cracked” helmet and “faded” torso printing. His accessory is a sausage, because who doesn’t like sausages? 🙂

The second minifigure is Unikitty. This is a variant of her which is sitting down, and her body is cleverly built in a way to represent her seated. I like her printed tail and face, along with the printed 1×3 plate that has her eyebrows on it. She comes with an alternate 1×3 brick (and 1×3 plate) as an alternate expression.

The third minifigure is Emmet. He has a happy expression but his head is double-sided with a sad face on the other side. He comes with a printed 2×2 circular waffle and a builder’s hat, but strangely this hat does not have his hair molded behind so he can’t wear it (the element already exists).

The fourth minifigure is Ghost Vitruvius. He glows in the dark and has a shimmery blue cape. I like his staff which, in the movie, is made from a chewed-up lollipop!

The final figure is President Business. This is the good variant of him, and he appropriately has a happy expression. I like his squarish hair, and his grey suit can be used for other characters too. The smaller build in the set is Emmet’s car. It was seen in the movie and I think it’s a cute little build. It’s black and white and super small, but that only adds to its cuteness. (Plus Emmet was single at the start of the movie… like me) It has a detachable roof and two small opening doors. It has a seat for one, a small trunk for storing stuff behind, a steering wheel, and a printed 1×2 tile saying “RADIO” that was actually in the film. Emmet sits inside and is pretty comfy. You can store his hard hat in the trunk. The main build is the Double Decker Couch itself. This was seen in the movie and was used by the gang to escape when their sub was destroyed. It was actually built by Emmet. I like the blue seats and the brown ladders which are like bunkbed ladders. It’s also super cute that there are four cupholders for coffee mugs. You can put minifigures on the bunkbed. The top deck can’t be subjected to too much pressure but it’s still reasonably strong.

Overall, this set is definitely a winner. Great minifigures, good builds, decent playability, and great value too.

  • Builds: 4/5
  • Minifigures: 5/5
  • Playability: 3.5/5
  • Price: 4.5/5
  • Personal Rating: 4.5/5
  • TOTAL: 4.3/5

  1. “Plus Emmet was single at the start of the movie… like me” hmmmmm This statement is um interesting xD

Good review, regret not getting this set when it was out! No rush for the 2018 set reviews, although apparently the star wars sets may have been spotted in Australia. Going to have to keep some christmas money to put it towards training on Ahch-To!
