Hey guys! Today I’m reviewing another CCBS figure – something I haven’t done in a while. This is 75534 Darth Vader, which retails for £34.99 (UK), $39.99 (U.S.), $54.99 (Aus), and $69.99 (NZ). I missed out on the original Darth Vader CCBS Figure, so hopefully this one is good too! Lord Vader is the second CCBS character to be re-released (after Rey) and the interior of his torso has been redesigned. His torso also now has one printed mold instead of the previous one’s brick-built and printed molds. I don’t mind this change too much except that Vader’s central panel has been split apart which looks kind of dumb. His upper arm and upper leg panels have been printed with cloth printing, and he now has an additional cloth around his waist. He also has been made much taller, though now he looks a bit out of scale with other CCBS figures. You can see the comparison image by Brickset here. Vader’s lightsaber has the regular translucent red blade. The hilt has been extended with the addition of an extra hilt element, which I think looks dumb but is an easy fix if you don’t like it. The previous Vader set was released in 2015 so did not have the spinny arm feature introduced in 2016. However, this one has it, and as I mentioned in 76104 The Hulkbuster Smash-Up Review, I don’t really like this type of play features. Anyway, spin the knob that sticks out of Vader’s back awkwardly, the arm swings up and down in a fake manner. Another update from the previous Vader CCBS figure is the helmet. It is now a new mold, and now the helmet can be removed to show Vader’s scarred head underneath. I think the prints for his head are fairly good, and I like the molded silver vocoder in front of his chin.
One official image shows Vader fighting without his helmet. I think this looks dumb if you ask me.
Well, on the whole, I think this is not a bad set. It looks pretty good, though is a bit out-of-scale to other CCBS figures. The poseability is decent but as you all know, cloth is not poseable which is a factor to consider — on the other hand, the cape is a vital element of Darth Vader and it would have been dumb to not include it. Despite the good things, I think the price is rather high — I would have liked to see it priced slightly lower, maybe at around £29.99 (UK), $34.99 (U.S.), $49.99 (Aus), and $59.99 (NZ). That said, this figure on discount is still a good set for fans of Vader (hmmmmmmmmmm)!
- Looks: 4.5/5
- Poseability: 4/5
- Price: 3/5
- Personal Rating: 4.5/5
- TOTAL: 4.0/5
