4441 Police Dog Van Review!

Hey guys! Today I have another LEGO Forest Police set review – 4441 Police Dog Van! This is a 313-piece set that retailed in 2012 for £19.99 (UK), $34.99 (U.S.), $49.99 (Aus), and $59.99 (NZ). There are two minifigures and two animals included.

  • The first minifigure is a criminal. His head print was introduced in 2011, and even though I thought it was fairly common, it actually only appears in 6 other sets! He has a light grey torso with open jacket, revealing his inmate outfit underneath. This torso only appears in 5 other sets. He comes with a black knitted hat, a red jewel, and a red crowbar.
  • The other minifigure of the set is a police officer. He wears the standard issue Forest Police outfit, which has a dark tan torso, dark blue jeans, and a tan hat. He has an angry expression which is a really common head print, and has grey handcuffs.
  • Last up are two police dogs. However, nothing makes them specifically police dogs so you can use them as regular dogs for your minifigures. They’re pretty cute, though you can’t pose them at all.

There are three builds in the set, and all together they are well sized for the price. The main build is the eponymous Police Dog Van. It’s a big blue and dark grey van, with sticker detailing on the sides and top. There are also some blue lights on top to represent sirens, along with a white nudgebar at the front of the van. There’s space for one minifigure to sit inside and drive the van, and he gets two opening doors on either side. The middle part of the van is devoted to carrying the police dogs, as the name suggests. A panel can be hinged open and there’s space to put both dogs inside, which is convenient as you won’t lose them. The back of the van has a space for putting captured criminals. The rear panel hinges open in a similar way to the dog panel, though this one has some bars at the back. You can put the criminal in the back, though the space is rather small so it may be a human rights violation. The secondary build in the set is a sports car for the criminal. It has a really neat dark red and black color scheme, and has a grey engine popping out of the hood. The criminal can sit inside and speed off before he gets arrested.

The final build is this gold mine. It’s a pretty small build that has a sticker indicating what it is, a couple of boards to mark it as out-of-bounds, and a little tree with a brick-built bee nest. The criminal can fit inside (though it’s a pretty shallow build). There are a couple of gold 1×2 tiles to represent gold tiles. The criminal may have gotten the gold, but he looks like he’s in trouble!

On the whole, I think this is a good, fun set. The three builds create a fun play scenario to play, and are well-sized for the price. The minifigure selection is a little lacklustre, but other than that I think this is a good set.

  • Builds: 4/5
  • Minifigures: 3/5
  • Playability: 4.5/5
  • Price: 4.5/5
  • Personal Rating: 4/5
  • TOTAL: 4.0/5
