Hi guys! Continuing my CMF Series 18 Reviews, today we’ll be taking a look at 71021-4 Party Clown! Many parties have a clown to add to the fun, but we’ve had several LEGO Clowns already, so is this another repetitive minifigure or a new, fun one?
The Party Clown wears a brightly colored outfit with orange, lime green, and purple. His hat has been recolored from The LEGO Batman Movie’s Penguin minifigure, and I think it looks good with the printing on it. He wears a bow tie in red that was first molded for Robin in the LEGO Batman Movie, and has a printed face with a happy expression. His torso and legs have some simple detail but I think it looks good, and he sports the tailcoat cloth piece that was first used by The LEGO Batman Movie’s Joker in 70900 The Joker’s Balloon Escape, 70908 The Scuttler, and other sets. However, it has been recolored to orange in this instance.
Here’s the back of the minifigure. I was pleased to see that the teal printed on the top hat wraps around to the back, though oddly enough the clown’s torso does not have back printing. It seems that LEGO has determined that whenever a minifigure has a waist cloth attachment, they don’t need back printing (though that isn’t always the case).
As for accessories, the Party Clown comes with a couple of balloon animals, which are a common sight at birthday parties. These are a new mold and can be gripped at the center. They are translucent green and translucent pink, both of which are nice colors and I’m happy to see color variation.
All in all, this minifigure is quite good. He isn’t really wearing a crazy costume like some of the other minifigures in the series, and there have been many CMF clowns before, but I like his design and the balloon animals are a nice addition.
