Hey everyone! Today I have another LEGO Series 18 Collectable Minifigure review – the Race Car Guy! This guy has arrived at the costume party with a very interesting costume – let’s check it out!
The Race Car Guy wears a very elaborate costume — he wears a standard racecar driver outfit but comes with a new racecar mold attached to his waist! He wears a blue helmet with some printing on it and has a new head print. His torso and legs are also similarly detailed and I like them, especially since they can be used for a normal racecar driver if you wish.
The back of the helmet has a printed red and white finish flag, which is a nice cool design. The Race Car Guy’s back torso print says “Clutch Drive”, which is a car term but also a pun on the word “clutch”, frequently used by LEGO fans as part of the term “clutch power” (talking about how well the LEGO bricks grip each other).
I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that the Race Car Guy has side arm and leg printing! The arms have “GRAND BRIX” printed on them while the legs read “Cross Axle”, both of which are LEGO puns. Also, you can see how the race car itself is attached to the minifigure more clearly in this shot.
The Race Car itself is a new mold for this figure. It has two holes in the centre to allow it to be attached to a minifigure. There’s some nice printing on the front, with a black windscreen and some racing designs too. The car is made from four pieces — the central new mold, two wheel pieces (which are old pieces), and a printed silver 1×1 tile with rounded edge. This silver piece first appeared in 70902 Catwoman Catcycle Chase but I am pleased to see it here again, particularly as it works very well.
I am very satisfied with the Race Car Guy overall! The minifigure concept is great and the figure itself is very highly detailed, with both arm and side leg printing. The car mold itself is nice too and I hope we see more variants of it in different colors.
